A soft, warm-toned sedimentary stone carved and cut in Central Java. Specified for interiors, shaded exteriors and carved relief work where the design calls for warmth rather than the coolness of volcanic grey.

Indonesian limestone — known locally as batu paras — is a fine, workable sedimentary stone in the cream and ivory range. It is softer than the volcanic stones and that softness is exactly why it is chosen: it carves. Much of the relief panelling, screen work and ornamental detail in Balinese and Javanese resort architecture is limestone.
For flat work it produces a calm, warm surface with far less tonal noise than most imported travertines. In shaded exteriors, courtyards and covered terraces it holds up well; in fully exposed wet climates it weathers and develops patina faster than andesite, which some architects specify for deliberately.

On the deck and surround, yes, with an impregnating sealer and normal maintenance. We do not recommend it below the waterline — the volcanic stones and Sukabumi green are the correct specification for submerged surfaces.
Yes. Send a dimensioned drawing or reference photograph and we will quote per panel with a sample carving for approval before the full production run.
In wet tropical exposure limestone develops patina and can host algae on permanently shaded damp surfaces. Sealing slows this considerably. In dry climates such as the Gulf it stays close to its original tone.
